DUBLIN (Reuters) – James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has postponed his wedding, due to take place next weekend at Ballintubber Abbey in Ireland`s County Mayo, because his son has not fully recovered from a car accident.
“His son Sean is not well enough to travel the six hours it takes to get to Ireland so they`ve had to postpone the ceremony. There was always a question mark over it,“ an official from the abbey, who asked not to be named, told Reuters.
Irish-born Brosnan, who hails from the town of Navan, northwest of Dublin, planned to wed fiancee Keely Shaye-Smith at the 800-year-old abbey and hold the reception in nearby Ashford Castle.
His 16-year-old son was badly injured last month when the sport utility vehicle he was riding in with several friends veered off a private road in the hills above the scenic Malibu coast in California.
Sean Brosnan suffered a broken pelvis in the accident but is expected to recover fully from his injuries.
Brosnan lost his first wife, Cassandra Harris, Sean`s mother, to ovarian cancer in 1991. He has another son by Shaye-Smith.
